Just watched this on Nickelodeon.
A bit of a disappointment, because it doesn't have enough of the series' cheesy humor.
I always watch the series when I need to be cheered up and it works every time. The whole setting, the characters and the stories are so absurd, crazy and disturbed that it really works on my laughing muscles, add to that the rather bad exaggerated spoken Dutch dubbing and the party is complete. Pure camp!

Unfortunately, this is largely lacking in the film, which takes itself far too seriously and is a kind of third-rate version of a real superhero film. Film is actually too big a word for this longer TV episode, although it is clear that more money has been thrown at it, as more was filmed on location, whether or not on the studio grounds.

It's also a shame that some of the characters from the original TV series aren't there, for starters the craziest characters from the series are missing, namely Henry's father and -the most important omission- Captain Man himself (except for the last half minute), both of whom are completely insane in their own way. The sensible Charlotte is also missing for unclear reasons and that's just a loss.

What we get instead is a smart girl who works with Henry. Of course I understand that it was originally meant for children and perhaps they can identify with her, but for me it was an unnecessary and annoying addition that I don't want.

Only Grande as Frankini is still completely off the wall as usual and still manages to bring in some of the old campy atmosphere.

All in all it was nice to see Henry again, but unfortunately still a slight disappointment and it doesn't compare to the crazy TV series at all.

Still a pity! With a lot of effort and mainly for sentimental reasons: a six, or three stars.
