Bridget Jones's Baby plot

"Relationship status: beyond complicated"

After Bridget Jones breaks up with Mark Darcy, her life doesn't quite go according to plan. The single 40-something decides to focus again on her job as a top producer and to surround herself with old and new friends. For once, Bridget has everything under control. Then her love life takes a turn. She meets rambunctious American Jack, the lover who is everything Mark was not. When she becomes pregnant, there is only one hitch: she can only say with 50% certainty who the father is.

Without Hugh Grant's input, this part certainly wasn't as strong as the previous two. Renée Zellweger as Bridget Jones was "suddenly" less comical or successful and not even talked about the mutilations she had performed on her face. The timid, round and frumpy character suddenly became a woman for which two men managed to fight. It wasn't right and it was rarely funny. For me a real damper on the "whole".

Really hilarious here and there.

But it still feels like a bit too much. The jokes are really there, but it takes a little long here and there until the next one comes, and the whole thing is also just a bit too predictable. I didn't really like the new actors in this part, and Mr. Darcy was playing a bit on autopilot. I thought the one-twos between Zellweger and Solemani worked well.

I didn't like it much, a dowdy, semi-funny swoon movie for women. Having to choose between 2 men is a concept that is now obsolete, moreover I was very annoyed by the main character. Zellweger, as Onderhond said, pulls weird faces throughout the film and her exaggerated English accent came across as unnatural. The clumsiness of Jones still had something charming in the first film, but in this part it started to irritate me a bit, just like her voice over that can be heard constantly. In terms of humor it's not my taste either, too good and apart from a single scene I couldn't laugh about this. I also found the ending a bit too easy and real emotions are not released. This film just doesn't have it in every way. Not enough.
