Reasonable film in which a rebellious teenager ends up at a girls' boarding school and falls in love with her teacher. The relationship between these two women is well portrayed, but the course is rather predictable. Sensually portrayed, although it is sometimes too thick on top. Also because of the short length, the film is easy to watch.

Since Fucking Åmål (1998) I search in vain for a film that can describe love just as beautifully. Somewhere between Hollywood fairy tales and slow European cinema there is often something fun, but in general it lacks something. It becomes even more difficult to find forbidden loves, often it is the traditional man-woman or girl-boy. I honestly admit that I usually like the coming-of-age films more, because they appeal to my imagination more.

With Loving Annabelle you could in theory get the best of both worlds. Erin Kelly who really blossoms as soon as you remove the piercings and weird clothes. Put her in a white robe and…

So far so good, but the blossoming relative with teacher is still very uncomfortable. Especially because of the above message from myself; I just can't figure out how something like this happens. Somewhere between deceased loves and the comforting mother lies the chemistry, but it is too artificial for me.

Once underway there are many beautiful scenes, with the highlight clearly being 'the night'. Sometimes some dry, recognizable situations between the girls. Typical youth jokes/comments. In that respect it is also an excellent film, not least because of the strong acting.

The story is even more poignant. Because why.. why does it necessarily have to be about the teacher? Would the story change seriously if you let the relationship develop between two students instead of a student-teacher? I suspect not. In fact, I suspect that the film would have been many times stronger. It would at least come across as much more natural.

In fact, this film has everything that Naissance des Pieuvres (2007) was missing. Unfortunately, that film had everything that Loving Annabelle lacks.

A dreamy film about the forbidden love between a student and her teacher. For the young Annabelle she is the only bright spot in a world where she does not feel at home. It doesn't really click with her parents, the management and the fellow students. She feels the gentle approach of her teacher as affection. Simone, in turn, has settled in a mostly safe situation, through a relationship with a man. She feels love for the new student and that shakes her world. Moreover, she is a student of hers, which makes it ethically unacceptable. You also see her struggle with that knowledge and struggle not to give in to her feelings.

The film is atmospheric and mainly focuses on the two main characters. The rest of the acting is pretty bad I must say and that doesn't always do the film well. It is somewhat reminiscent of Lost and Delirious, but can't compete with that film. Still, it's a great movie that's better than it looks. But no more.
